Job Description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment, facilities and systems, to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the company.  Directly supervises and trains maintenance staff and assigns duties.  Maintain shift maintenance and personnel records.  Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.

Job Duties:

  • Supervises plant maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure that the packaging and process machines are running at the company’s standard speeds and to proper quality specifications.
  • Adhere to Food safety, Human safety and Food quality programs through training, administration and enforcing company practices, policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
  • Establishes and maintains a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.
  • Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and orders when necessary.
  • Assists with hiring of maintenance personnel.
  • Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, to anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Tracks, analyzes and improves key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc.
  • Communicates directly with QA laboratory to ensure effective participation by the maintenance technicians in the implementation of QA policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the maintenance department.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities, repairs and facility projects with Plant Operations Departments.
  • Initiates, implements, and manages the plant maintenance program based on best practices with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • Manage plant capital projects in conjunction with the plant manager.
  • Makes recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
  • Perform other duties and functions as required.

Job Qualifications:

Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude. College or Associate degree in a related technical field preferred. Five years experience as a manager or supervisor in the maintenance and/or operation of a process manufacturing facility, preferably in a food-manufacturing environment.  

Must have effective communication, good decision making along with excellent people skills. 

Experience with repairs and maintenance of processing equipment.    

Expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g., word processing, email, and spreadsheets.  Must have the ability to work effectively with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and instruct others on its operation.
