High School - Winona Cotter
Class – 7th Grade

The 12-year-old, running a 5K for the first time as a high school athlete, recorded a dominating victory Saturday in the Gary Wilson Girls Gold race at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota.

Grace finished first among 419 runners from 10 states, with a four-second margin over the second-place runner, a senior from Illinois. She is no stranger to distance running; over the summer she set a national record for 11- and 12-year-old girls in the 3,000 meters.

Grace has the potential to become the first six-time state cross-country champion in Minnesota history. The record is five, held by Olympian Carrie Tollefson of Dawson-Boyd.

Congratulations to Grace Ping for being this weeks Old Dutch High School Athlete of the Week!
