The Skippers scored seven runs in the sixth inning and went on to defeat Elk River 12-2 in a season-opening game at Veterans Field in Minnetonka. After the Elks scored a run in the first inning, the Skippers got three runs in the third and held the lead the rest of the way.

Senior pitcher Sam Thoresen, who has signed with the Gophers, struck out seven and walked two in five innings. Joel Thimsen had three hits and T.J. Rogers drove in four runs.
