Emily confirmed her standing as one of the top athletes in Minnesota by finishing first in a field of 455 runners in the girls Gold race at Saturday’s Roy Griak Invitational. Emily is the Class 2A defending state champion, with a chance for a repeat title later in this season.

Her time Saturday over the 5,000-meter course was 22 seconds better than the rest of the field. The runner-up was last year’s Class 1A state champion, Tierney Wolfgram of Math & Science Academy. Covert’s victory made her a two-time champion in the Griak Gold race.

Congratulations to Emily Covert for being this week’s Old Dutch Quality Athlete of the Week.
